Right now, we are seeking a Senior Scientist, Decision Sciences to join our Decision Sciences team based at Western Union’s Digital Headquarters in San Francisco, California

 

We are looking for someone who will be accountable for analyzing fraud data and formulating fraud control strategies to effectively balance our revenue and loss goals. This role is responsible for fraud identification and development of innovative fraud prevention strategies to combat the latest developing fraud patterns for card not present (CNP) transactions conducted on all of our websites and mobile platforms.

  • Develop innovative analytic tools and methodologies (models/rules) using machine learning techniques and manage on-going continuous improvement
  • Research and analyze card not present transaction activity to identify developing fraud patterns and develop recommendations to address fraudulent activity.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (monitoring team, vendor management team, product management etc.) to implement strategic initiatives and improvements to current risk management process and tools.
 
What you will need to succeed: 
 
  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative related field required, Advanced degree preferred
  • Strong technical skills: Proficiency in manipulating large datasets and using one of the following: Python, R, SQL, etc.
  • Experience with a general-purpose programming language (Java, Python, etc.). Experience with big data techniques (Hadoop, MapReduce, Spark) and querying tools (such as Hive, Pig, Impala). Experiences in building Machine Learning models.
  • Strong business mindset, logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, candidate must be able to explain complex problems to a variety of audience including company management.
  • Some hands-on work experiences in analytics, fraud or risk related experiences not required but preferred
  •  Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred
