Better requires process discipline and simplification

In this role, as Director, you will conduct internal investigations and enhance ethics programs for the Company’s Ethics Office, which is part of the Corporate Affairs Team in the General Counsel’s Office.  Among other things, it investigates ethics and whistleblowing complaints, analyses and reports on ethics data, administers the Company’s Code of Conduct, leads ethics trainings, and develops initiatives to promote an ethical culture.  The Ethics Office plays a vital role in supporting the reputation and brand of Western Union. You will be reporting to the Senior Counsel and Chief Ethics Officer, and this role presents the opportunity to work on a passionate and engaged team and continue to develop and maintain a best-in-class ethics program covering all the Company’s global regions. 


 

Your responsibilities will include managing ethics investigations around the globe relating to reports of violations of the company’s Code of Conduct or policies, including reports of bribery, corruption, privacy or cyber-security breaches, antitrust violations, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, accounting or auditing concerns, fraud, conflicts of interest, misuse of company property, safety concerns, and other ethics-related issues as well as, develop investigation plans, conduct interviews, provide recommendations and support the investigation process, protocol and timelines of the Ethics Office, including directing and conducting investigations under attorney-client privilege. You will collaborate with other Legal teams (e.g., Employment Law, Litigation, Privacy) and non-Legal teams (e.g., HR, Compliance, Security) to respond to ethics concerns and drive a culture of proactive risk management.  As well as, support Ethics Office programs, including updating the Code of Conduct and ethics policies, developing and/or leading ethics training, and generating awareness for Ethics initiatives. You will also help to analyse data trends and draft reports for the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and monitor relevant regulatory issues, such as guidance on maintaining effective whistleblowing programs and regulations on combatting modern slavery and human trafficking. You will support Company-wide programs and projects, including Western Union’s Environmental, Social and Governance program.  And provide leadership in enhancing and implementing an ethics program that works well within a matrixed organization by incorporating global level policies, standards, controls and operational procedures and protocols


For such a pivotal role, you’ll ideally have a law degree from ABA-accredited law school   and admitted to practice law in at least one state in the US, with at least  three to five years investigations-related work experience as in-house counsel or at a law firm advising on employment, compliance, or investigations  as well as an ability to establish rapport, confidence, and trust with employees at all levels from entry level to executive. Excellent logic, analysis, critical-thinking, problem solving, and negotiation skills and the ability to effectively manage confidential and/or legally privileged matter.  As well as excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confident presentation skills and the ability to articulate complex legal concepts into clear recommendations for business partners and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills and high attention to detail and a passion for building an ethical culture.  You will have the ability to drive cross-functional projects and manage complex, long-term initiatives and the ability to influence and challenge business partners in a constructive and persuasive manner, embrace change, propose creative solutions, and develop bold and innovative programs. You’ll also have excellent legal acumen and a “can-do” attitude with a bias towards action.
