Right now, we are seeking an Associate Manager, Product Management - API based at Western Union’s Digital Headquarters location in San Francisco, California (near AT&T Park).


In this role, you will evolve Western Union’s API platform across multiple channels as the subject-matter-expert.  You’ll be the champion of the customer, sharing your expertise on how to develop WU’s product suite in order to deliver the best user experience imaginable.  You’ll be a cross-functional enabler, supporter, and liaison between the technical and business worlds as you design services that users love.


The ideal Product Manager obsessively seeks to understand the customer’s perspective, is data-driven, has a bias toward action, and can break down complex problems into steps that drive product development.  If you want to succeed, we recommend experience with product management of front-end mobile and web products geared for a typical user in an Agile Scrum environment.

  • Create, prioritize, and execute on the platform roadmap
  • Document and manage product requirements, stories, and backlog
  • Serve as the subject-matter-expert for several products, responsible for sharing your knowledge of the end-to-end API lifecycle
  • As an API Product Owner, you’ll be responsible for back-end API functionality with WU’s product suite
  • Create product documentation on the platform product delivery team
  • Create sprint roadmap based on corporate roadmap including research and authoring user stories aligned with the sprint roadmap
  • Work closely with other product groups, marketing, regional business teams, customer support teams, legal, compliance and engineering teams.
  • Build and track performance metrics and make enhancements to existing metrics and reports
  • Monitor industry trends to inform product strategy

What you will need to succeed: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (preferably in business or engineer) and a Master's Degree and/or technical certifications such as PO are a plus
  • 3+ years of experience as a Product Manager for a web and/or mobile software products (B2B or B2C - cloud experience a plus)
  • Experience in Agile Scrum methodologies with frequent production release cycles
  • Passion for APIs and developer experience; Strong empathy for the developer audience
  • Solid understanding of API best practices and familiarity with SaaS developer tools
  • Ability to document and create training for product features and platforms
  • Ability to effectively communicate business requirements
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written & verbal) skills
  • Entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment
  • Get things done attitude; Self-motivated, with the ability to “roll-up sleeves” and prioritize

  • Prior experience as a software developer with expert-level knowledge of RESTful APIs
  • Experience in mobile and web analytics
